A woman was blown away by kindness after a chef offered to make a free birthday meal for her elderly father.

Gill Dickinson initially put a call-out on Facebook for places who were delivering hot meals during the Coronavirus outbreak.

She desperately wanted to treat her dad, who was turning 91-years-old, for his birthday while also saving her mum from cooking for one day.

Gill, who works for the PSP Association charity, had intended her request to spark recommendations for takeaway restaurants as she is based in Scotland and not familiar with her dad’s area in the North East.

But rather than a flurry of Just Eat suggestions, she was met with surprise when a young man messaged her who wanted to help and said he was trained in Michelin-level restaurants. The chef, Lewis Eglintine, lived beside Gill’s dad and offered to cook him a meal.

Gill told Uspire: “I engaged with Lewis but soon realised he meant he didn’t want to take any money even for ingredients – even when I insisted! How absolutely lovely of a young chap to be so generous and enterprising, he duly delivered a stunning meal.”

Lewis explained he is an aspiring cook, looking to build a portfolio of foodie pictures for his website in the hope of being a private chef in the area so was only too happy to help.

He cooked up a feast of stuffed pork fillet wrapped in bacon, fondant potatoes, purple sprouting broccoli, caramelised apple balls, parmesan tuile, and a mustard cider cream.

Following the meal, Gill tweeted: “Blown away by #covdkindness of strangers today.

“Couldn’t be with Dad for his 91st birthday, a fantastic young private chef insisted on making a wonderful meal as a gift – look at this food!!

“Thanks so much Lewis, anyone needing a chef in #southshields I know just the fella!”
