Dave Grohl makes shock revelation about ‘Times Like These’ as celebs cover hit song for charity

The 2003 hit has made its way back into the charts after a host of celebs came together to record a cover of the song.

They’re one of the world’s biggest rock bands, but you might be shocked to hear how Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl actually writes their hit songs.

The 51-year-old musician has revealed he wrote one of the band’s most popular songs on a random piece of paper in a hotel room.

Times Like These has made its way back into the charts after a whole host of celebs came together to record a cover of the 2003 song in order to raise money for charity amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

The performance features the likes of Dua Lipa, Biffy Clyro, Ellie Goulding, Mabel, Sigrid, Royal Blood and, even, Dave himself.

Upon hearing the completed track and watching the accompanying music video, Dave penned a thank you note to the BBC and admitted how Times Like These was originally born.

The 51-year-old wrote: “To all my friends at the BBC, what a crazy few months it’s been for all of us. And what an incredible honour to see and hear my song Times Like These transformed by BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Allstars for – well, times like these.

“When my manager first called and explained the project to me, I literally had to fight back tears – that’s how flattered I was that the BBC would consider one of my songs for such an important cause.

“To all those amazing artists who took the time to learn and sing the words that I scribbled on a bit of hotel stationery nearly 20 years ago – I am beyond humbled. You have no idea.”

He continued: “I hope this new version of the song helps lift people’s spirits a little, and that the proceeds we’re donating to Comic Relief and Children In Need reach as many people affected by COVID-19 as possible.

“Thanks again, for giving me the chance to be a part of something so much bigger. I look forward to the day that we’ll all be back in a muddy field again, singing our hearts out together. It’s times like these we learn to live again…”

Sharing the letter on their social media channels, BBC Radio 1 wrote: “Dave Grohl sent a message to everyone at the BBC and we couldn’t love him more.”

Foo Fighters have beeb forced to postpone their 25th anniversary tour due to the pandemic and have rescheduled most of their tour dates, which they were due to play this summer.
