If you’ve felt ‘different’ or uncomfy in the skin you’re in, then Eva Barilaro might just be your hero.
Eva, who has alopecia, filmed herself shaving her head for her 11k-strong Instagram army alongside a beautiful message encouraging followers to embrace their individuality.
However, Eva was also in for a surprise too.
As boyfriend Damien helped shave her hair, he soon turned the razor on himself to join Eva in solidarity – with her priceless reaction caught on camera as she burst into tears.

Alopecia is the general medical term for hair loss and is believed to be caused by an abnormality in the immune system that damages hair follicles.
In honour of Alopecia Awareness Month which falls in September, Eva said she hopes people never forget how beautiful they are.

Eva, who hails from Monaco, wrote: “I’d like you to be aware that you are not ‘different’ – even though you feel like it – whatever you think is different when it comes to you.
“The truth is, ‘normal’ doesn’t exist. Indeed, every human being was born unique, with its own specificities, the ones that actually make us who we are as an individual, and that also make it possible to distinguish us from someone else.
“So, if normal doesn’t exist… differences don’t either, right? You are just you. And this is it.”

Eva continued: “Please, remember that you don’t have to match any imposed social standards, and in fact you will probably never be able to match any fixed image that society wants you to relate to because do you really think that this image, corresponding to a fabricated perfection actually exists?
“Have you ever thought about the fact that the person posing in the picture might actually want to look like you? Because yes, I am telling you, you are beautiful.
“And the person you most admire, admires someone too. And this person maybe you. And it is an endless struggle with no winner.”

Eva concluded by adding: “You are not a hairstyle, a body, or whatever makes you feel uncomfortable about being you. If you look at the people around you as a whole, why not look at yourself the same way? Why not start to be gentle with yourself before being gentle with everyone else but yourself?
“Do not reduce yourself to what you think is your default or your complex. Try to look at what people see when looking at you: a very unique, beautiful and worthy person.
“You deserve to be loved; you deserve your own love.”
The inspiring video clocked up an impressive 3.5k views, with social networkers flocking to the comments to praise Eva’s efforts.
One admirer summed it up perfectly when she wrote: “Still shiver when I see this video.”
