Whole Beings teaches kids to be at the heart of their education

Every now and then, you may ask yourself what you’d have done differently if you could go back in time. For us, we often wish we had got to explore our creative side more.  

That’s why we’re in awe of Whole Beings, who encourage kids to play as they study.

By placing holistic education at the heart of learning, the team believe that children will be bursting with creativity by the time they leave school.

With a wealth of resources on offer, there are parent guides for home learning, teacher-led tutorials and downloadable ideas to help your little ones discover life through playful eyes.

As well as encouraging children to have a more creative mindset, the Whole Beings crew believe in learning maths and science through real-life experiences that connect kids to the natural world.

In order to achieve this, they promote active rather than passive learning, which helps young people develop a sense of connectedness to themselves, the community, and the universe.

By swapping the teacher-centred model for a child-centred process means students not only become more rooted to the planet, but learning is more likely to meet the needs of individuals.

This approach also eliminates superficial understanding of topics, where children copycat information by learning parrot-fashion without actually grasping the content, as they learn through discovery and a hands-on approach instead that creates a deeper connection.

With their curriculum bundles targeted at children during their early years, the organisation is keen to stress just how important this time is for development.

The Whole Beings entire ethos is based around this, as they state: “Did you know, that 95% of our thoughts, behaviours, habits and beliefs are formed during the first seven years?

“Our children are not passive, empty vessels we fill with ideas and vow they are ‘learning’.

“Each learner has a unique way of being and it’s our job to nurture their ideas, dispositions, identity and purpose in life – even if the outside world has stopped for a while – their internal world hasn’t.”

As well as teaching core topics like literacy and maths in a fun and approachable way, the team aim to boost humanitarian values such as kindness, compassion, and empathy too.

One of the ways they do this is through their Grow. Feed. Educate. Give Back. programme in collaboration with a local farm that introduces children to the great outdoors.

With grass under foot and the sun on their face, they learn to eat from the earth, pat the Highland Cows, forage in the nut orchid, charge an electric car and even harvest honey from the hives.

We salute them! The sooner more people recognise our children are the future of our planet and that what we teach them now will determine what the world becomes, the better.
