They are the heroes who fight on the frontline to protect their country, yet veterans very often struggle to get the recognition they deserve when back home.
It is scandalous, with many returning from war scarred from what they have endured which leads to depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
However, the 1 in 3 veterans who have suffered with mental health and brain issues now have a voice thanks to the incredible force that is Gary Sinise.
Perhaps better known as the Oscar-nominated actor who played Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, Gary has launched a mental health network for veterans and first responders.

First responders are typically police officers, paramedics or firefighters, who are specially trained to be the first to arrive at the scene of an emergency.
The network, which promises to provide transformative care and treatment, aims to establish 20 sites across the US to serve those in need as well as their families.
Speaking about his aspirations, the Hollywood star turned humanitarian said: “When I formed the Gary Sinise Foundation in 2011, it was rooted in a personal mission to provide support, raise spirits, and improve the mental wellness of our nation’s heroes and their families.”

He continued: “Always wanting to do more, as the foundation approaches its 10th anniversary this June, I am proud to announce the launch of the Avalon Network to help heal the invisible wounds afflicting many of our veterans and first responders – transforming struggle into strength.”
This is not Gary’s first venture into philanthropy. Notably, he has performed on military bases in Iraq and around the world with his group Lt. Dan Band.
He has also helped to raise millions of dollars as well as donating his own money to help give back to military personnel and their families.
