We often say that the clinical setting of a therapist’s office is not always the easiest place to have a chat about how you’re feeling, making it harder to open up.
That’s why we salute The Pub Shrink, an initiative for normalising conversations around mental health while at the boozer with mates.
The concept is simple. Grab a beer, wine or soft drink, and get honest with your nearest and dearest about what’s going on.

The brainchild of psychotherapist James Roast, he launched the idea to help people talk more about their mental health as he believes it should not be a frightening concept.
The Pub Shrink provides a platform to make these conversations more familiar, with a radio show and podcast of the same name to help people feel at ease to open up not bottle up.
Okay, but why a pub?
Since the 10th century, we’ve been using them as places to meet, talk, and share within our communities, James wants to continue that trend to talk to people about mental health.
He believes that down the local we are at our most relaxed, with those we hold in high esteem, so it is the perfect marriage to get whatever is bothering us off our chests rather than hold it all in.

The Pub Shrink is just the tip of the iceberg of what James offers, also hosting a two-hour weekly radio show named The Happiness Algorithm, which discusses all things mental health and what makes us happy to help listeners with advice on living your best life.
As a taster, some of his episodes have explored the themes of the importance of laughter, the evolution of herbalism, and how to transform belief patterns.
Not content with that, James also work in schools, hospitals and workplaces to boost emotional literacy with the RISE project to help individuals enrich their lives.
Oh, and did we mention he delivers 1-2-1 sessions too!

Whether working with him directly or listening to one of his shows, James says he can help you “start living the life you deserve to live”.
Speaking about his mission, James said: “Do you want to do more, be more, accomplish more, but don’t know where to begin? We’re here to help you get started.
“Don’t wait another moment. The time is now. The person is you. Take the leap and start living.”
