When something sounds too good to be true, the first question is usually, ‘what’s the catch?’
Well, today is your lucky day, because you can buy a house for £2 with zero catch.
Okay, so there might be a teeny-tiny one, you have to win the home in a raffle BUT if your ticket gets drawn you will genuinely have a new pad for the price of a coffee.
So, how is any of this even possible?
It’s all thanks to one family raffling-off their Victorian townhouse so they can expedite their move from the UK to Australia while also donating a chunk to a charity close to their hearts.
Consequently, they will help a new family get on the property ladder in Gateshead, near Newcastle, that will see them live a mortgage-free life.
Speaking exclusively to InspoDaily, Jade Richardson told us why she wanted to go down the alternative road to the usual method of estate agents and property solicitors.
Jade said: “We wanted to help someone get on the property ladder, while giving us the funds to help us start over and follow our dream to move to Australia.
“Also, it allows us to donate £10,000 to the charity Tiny Lives, which helped us a lot when our daughter was born at 26 weeks and spent 10 weeks on the neonatal ward at hospital.”
She continued: “We have currently sold 70,000 tickets and have lowered our end goal of 200k tickets to just 150k tickets to guarantee the home to a lucky winner.”
Jade and her partner came up with the idea after seeing another couple in a Facebook group of people emigrating to Oz sell their home within three months in a raffle.
She said: “We were toying with the idea of either renting or selling up before Australia and thought why not give raffling it off a go?”
The idyllic 132-year-old home boasts three-storeys of chic design, including a lounge with bay windows offering plenty of natural light and a bespoke fireplace; a dining room with new flooring and mirrored alcoves with fitted cupboards; and a kitchen with a breakfast bar.
Upstairs, you’ll find a stunning bathroom with a free-standing bath, separate shower and black gloss tiles; a very spacious master bedroom with fitted mirrored wardrobes; as well as three additional bedrooms, all of which can easily fit in a king-sized bed with space left over.
There is also an attic gifting a hoarder’s paradise of storage space for all your memory boxes.
Oh, and did we mention there is a contemporary heating system throughout the property with newly-installed radiators, plaster, paint, and skirting boards, plus new loft insulation?!
Meanwhile, outside, you’ll find a front garden with planters and grey stone gravel, as well as a backyard with a garage door for car access if needed or space for seating to enjoy the sun.
The raffle will run until August 25 or when the last ticket is sold – whichever is sooner.
Jade said: “For £2, you could have the keys to your very own home, no mortgage, all solicitors fees paid and a celebratory bottle of champagne on transference of ownership. This is 100% genuine.
“You have more chance of winning this property than getting a win on the lottery.”
She added: “We hope to make people happy and help Tiny Lives, who support people in such a horrendous time of their lives.”
